They don’t work or make their clothing,  yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.  And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

Many of us watched the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate this past week.  We were in awe at the beauty and pageantry.   I thought Kate looked stunning… and the Queen looked gorgeous in her yellow.  Yet even the Princess and the Queen in all their glory were not dressed as beautifully as the flowers of the field.

On a dangerous seacoast where shipwrecks often occur there was a once a crude little life-saving station. The building was just a hut, and there was only one boat, but the few devoted members kept a constant watch over the sea, and with no thought for themselves, they went out day or night tirelessly searching for the lost.

I didn’t realize that were so many!  Some years ago I was among that number.  In fact, our family left the church we were in and didn’t attend anywhere for 3 years.  However, we did fellowship with a few other Christians in our neighbourhood.

And yesterday, I discovered this book.  After reading the review, this book is one I must read:

THE OUT-OF-CHURCH CHRISTIANS by Andrew Strom

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God

and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul! …Who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy…”

WOW! What a wonderful union!! God’s steadfast love and His tender mercies!! As I checked the original meaning of these two words, it reminded me of the marriage of two loving parents.

God’s steadfast love is like the love of a father, and the tender mercies like that of a mother! An unbroken union! This love is like a circle, which encompasses or encircles us, and it has no breaks, no beginning or end. Oh, what a comforting thought!! I am surrounded by God’s love, and there is no escaping it.

This is like what Jeremiah said when he wrote in Lamentations:

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (3:22-23, ESV)

And as Easter is approaching, I began to think of another crown… the crown of thorns that our Saviour wore… a crown of humiliation, yet also the crown of steadfast love and mercy, and later to be replaced by a Crown of Glory and Great Honor.

They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” (Matthew 27:29, NLT)

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8, NLT)

Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.  (1 Peter 3:18, NLT)

What we do see is Jesus, who was given a position “a little lower than the angels”; and because he suffered death for us, he is now “crowned with glory and honor.” Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone.  God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation.

So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.  For he said to God,

“I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters.
I will praise you among your assembled people.”

He also said,

“I will put my trust in him,”
that is, “I and the children God has given me.”

Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham.  Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.  Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.  (Hebrews 2:9-18, NLT)
